The Youth Build program, funded by United Way, is open year-round. It currently has 25 participants. They go to school eight weeks, then work eight weeks; they are paid a stipend while going to school.

The school portion takes place at Youth Build's offices, 1102 Roosevelt Ave. Affiliated with Arsenal Technical High School's Day-Adult Program, students have special teachers who work with them in a smaller, supportive setting.

A typical day lasts from 8 a.m. to 2:45 p.m. Students work at their own pace and get a lot of individual attention.

During the workweeks, participants work from 7:45 a.m. to 3:45 p.m.

Youth Build doesn't provide day care for students' children but will help find it.

In addition to Youth Build, Eastside Community Investments rehabilitates Eastside houses and other buildings.

Youth Build is open to people ages 16 to 22 who have not been in school for more than a year but who have earned 15 credits toward graduation. For more information, contact Patsy O'Connor at ECI at 624-8452.
