Fair poll shows aluminum cans are by far most popular recyclable

Children's Express wanted to know approximately how many people in Indianapolis recycle and which age groups are more active in their recycling.

This summer we polled 135 people at the Deer Creek Fair in Noblesville about recycling. Seventy-eight percent of the people said that they recycled. Of this group 59 percent of people between the ages of 10 and 21 recycle; 84 percent between the ages of 22 and 39 said that they recycle; and 73 percent of people over 40.

Ninety-eight percent of the people said that they recycle aluminum cans, 58 percent recycle paper, 38 percent recycle plastics and 36 percent recycle glass.

Out of all the people surveyed, 81 percent take their items to be recycled somewhere and 18 percent have then picked up.
