Privacy policy

Y-Press, a youth-driven news organization, has a mission of giving young people a significant voice. Its work is produced by young people ages 10 to 18. Protecting the privacy of young people is especially important to Y-Press.

It is the sole owner of the information gathered on its Web site; and the organization has a firm commitment to respect and protect personal information of its users.

Y-Press will share your information with outside parties only in the ways that are described in this privacy statement or if it is required to do so by law or in the good-faith belief that such action is necessary to conform to the edicts of the law, cooperate with law enforcement agencies or comply with a legal process served on the Y-Press Web site. Notwithstanding our privacy policy, Y-Press may disclose personal information in special cases: 1) when we believe that disclosure of this information is necessary to identify, contact or bring legal action against someone who may be causing injury or could be harmed; 2) when we believe that the law requires it; 3) to any third party who may acquire Y-Press; and 4) in situations involving threats to the physical safety of any person.

What information is collected and how is it use?

Y-Press reporters/editors

If you are interested in becoming a Y-Press member, we ask for personal contact and identifying information. This information includes a young person’s name, physical address, age, phone number and e-mail address. Any personally identifiable information submitted to Y-Press through the Web site is confidential and is only shared with appropriate personnel and is used to respond to potential Y-Press reporters/editors. It is not sold or shared with anyone outside Y-Press staff. In large part, it is designed to verify and make connections for membership.

Contact us

Y-Press uses e-mail links located on the site to provide you direct contact with any questions or comments you may have. We read each message and try to reply promptly. Your comments may be filed to aid in site improvements or reviewed and discarded.
Y-Press will not sell or trade personal information about its users to any third party and your personal information will only be shared with a third party with your permission. To fulfill this policy, Y-Press agrees to exercise reasonable precautions to maintain confidentiality of the information that users provides when accessing and using this Web site.

Use of information

Y-Press may use IP addresses and browser types for system administration and to gather broad demographic information (number of people visiting the site, what Web browser is used and what pages are being viewed). Y-Press uses this information for internal evaluation and does not link IP addresses to any personal information. 

Third party service providers
Y-Press contracts with a third party to assist it in managing certain functions on the Web site, including hosting the site. Y-Press provides the third party with the necessary information to provide the service. It is unlikely that the third party will receive any information that will identify an individual.

Y-Press’s site contains links to other Web site. External links are reviewed by staff for its child-appropriate content. However, please note that these Web sites’ privacy policies may differ from Y-Press’s and to ensure protection, review the privacy policies of the sites you visit. Y-Press will not be held responsible for any content or privacy practices of linked sites.

Protecting your privacy and your information is a top priority. Y-Press has taken measures to prevent loss, misuse and alteration of your information.
